29th Annual Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament | OBX Events

The 29thannual Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament is being held this year from August 13th-17th. It is a world-class event and home to the State Record Blue Marlin caught on the 25th Anniversary of the tournament, weighing in at a whopping 1,228.5 pounds! As a child vacationing to the Outer Banks, I can tell you one of my fondest memories was when we stopped as a family to one of the fishing marinas and would see what the offshore boats brought in. Pirate's Cove Marina is definitely a destination to take your family anyways; they offer a stellar fishing fleet, an awesome ship's store, and are expanding with fantastic facilities like their newly constructed pavilion. The best time to go and hang out is normally around 4-5pm when the fleet gets in and the hauls get offloaded. However, with the tournament I suggest you make a plan of action. Here you can find the 2012 schedule of events for the 29th Billfish Tournament. There are activities scheduled all week such as live entertainment and of course the awards ceremony at week's end! You should make an attempt to head out to see the sights. Photos of previous tournaments are evidence enough that it is a popular attraction and there are going to be some BIG fish!
